Arbaaz and Sohail Khan sent to institutional quarantine by BMC after Covid rule violation
After filing an FIR against actor and producer, Sohail Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail's son Nirvaan Khan, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and police officials have sent all three to institutional quarantine at Taj Lands End Hotel in Bandra West on late Tuesday night. BMC officials said that all three will have to complete the quarantine period and later RT PCR test will be done.
After filing an FIR, the BMC has now sent the trio to institutional quarantine. Once they complete their stay, an RT PCR test will be done to ensure they are not affected by the novel coronavirus. The BMC has also clarified that they will have to bear the cost for the stay and the tests.
BMC officials will also be doing contact tracing in the case. A major concern for officials right now is that both brothers had participated in Salman Khan's birthday party recently, therefore they may have gotten in touch with a number of people. Therefore contact tracing is very important.
The BMC, on Monday, registered a case against Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan for violating Covid-19 norms, at Khar Police Station. Sohail Khan's son Nirvaan Khan has also been named in the case registered by the municipal body. According to the complaint, Arbaaz, Sohail, and Nirvaan Khan returned from Dubai on December 25, 2020, and directly went home without isolating themselves in a hotel. The complainant stated that the trio was asked to quarantine themselves in a hotel as per the Covid-19 guidelines, and while they said that they will quarantine themselves at Hotel Taj Lands End in Mumbai, they went to their Bandra home directly instead.
A BMC officer said, "These are a huge violations. The guidelines were very clear. People coming from the UK and the Middle East has to undergo compulsory institutional quarantine, even if they have a negative Covid-19 report. After 7 days of institutional quarantine, they will have to undergo an RT PCR test. The actors gave a false undertaking. Both brothers arrived from UAE on 25th while Sohail's son Nirvaan came on the 30th. They have now been sent to institutional quarantine at Taj Lands End Hotel in Bandra West."
After a new strain of coronavirus was discovered in the UK, the UK government has announced a nationwide lockdown. Flights from the UK were banned from December 22, 2020, itself, and people coming from other European and Middle East countries are mandated to undergo compulsory quarantine.
Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope yesterday had said that eight passengers from the UK, who landed in Maharashtra, were found to have symptoms of the new strain of coronavirus, including five from Mumbai, one each from Pune, Thane, and Mira Bhayandar. All of them are in segregation and their contact tracing is underway.
