Amritsar reports 2 positive coronavirus cases, total in India mounts to 33
Two people, with travel history to Italy, have been tested positive for coronavirus, an Amritsar medical superintendent at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital said on Saturday. With two fresh positive cases, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in India has mounted to 33.
In Amritsar, the two people, who had arrived in India from Italy, were declared positive for coronavirus after their blood samples were tested in a lab in Delhi. The samples have now been sent to a Pune lab for further diagnosis.
They were admitted directly from the airport. Both of them are residents of Hoshiarpur.
According to the medical superintendent, the two people had landed in India on March 3 and were directly admitted to a hospital after they were suspected of being infected with the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, an Indian national is among 15 new cases of the deadly coronavirus in the UAE, taking the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 45, PTI reported health officials as saying.
On Friday, a man from Delhi's Uttam Nagar, with a recent travel history to Thailand and Malaysia, was tested positive for novel coronavirus, taking the total number of cases in Delhi-NCR to four - two from Delhi, one each in Ghaziabad and Gurgaon.
Till Wednesday, 29 people, including 16 Italian tourists, had tested positive for coronavirus. The list included the first three cases in the country from Kerala last month. The three persons were discharged following recovery.
Meanwhile, Delhi government on Thursday said 11 separate rooms and isolation wards have been set up at the Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Narayan Hospital to treat coronavirus patients.
