568 new coronavirus cases push Assam's tally to 14,600; 5 more die in 24 hours
Assam reported 568 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the state's confirmed cases tally to 14,600 on Friday. Of the new cases, 355 cases were reported from Guwahati city alone.
Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: "568 new Covid-19 patients recorded in Assam today, with 355 patients from Guwahati City alone. I advise Ghy [Guwahati] people not to panic and take proper care. Total cases 14,600; Recovered 9,147; Active cases 5,423; Deaths 27."
Five more coronavirus patients died in the state in the last 24 hours pushing the death toll in the state to 27.
Himanta Biswa Sarma said: "A 72-year-old Covid-19 patients with lymphoma died at AMCH [Assam Medical College Hospital]. A 68-year-old patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and a 38-year-old patient with diabetes died at MMCH [Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital]. A 70-year-old Covid-19 patient from Beltola area in Guwahati and a 56-year-old government officer from Karbi, who was admitted to GMCH [Guwahati Medical College Hospital] Covid ICU, succumbed to their critical infections."
In the last 72 hours, 13 persons died in the state due to the novel coronavirus.
Moreover, 402 police personnel in the state have tested positive for the novel coronavirus till July 9.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) GP Singh tweeted: "July 9, 2020 -- Assam police 402 personnel have tested positive for Covid-19 till date out of whom 116 have recovered. All others are stable."
